Water and wine

Monika Drożyńska’s solo show ‘Water and Wine’ is a story of language and its relationship with religion. The Artist deals with these issues from a Polish perspective, as she is a girl from Gorlice, Poland.
In her works Drożyńska uses hand embroidery, which she treats as a political activity. In her embroideries she fuses different, often divergent, views and meanings, while often making use of polish homonyms and sayings. Drożyńska combines frazes and contexts, whose relation is only seemingly distant. By doing so she creates new connotations, and sometimes even new languages.
