Body Over
Norbert Delman explores issues of physicality, carnality, and genderlessness through the culture and aesthetics of bodybuilding and fitness, using various media, including virtual reality.
The artist is in search of “man” in the post-humanist sense, man improved by technology. Delman calls attention to how the form of the body is shaped in both the physical and the virtual space. In Body Over, Delman explores the abandonment of the physical body for an avatar, which changes the onetime communication dynamic between bodies in space. During the opening event, bodybuilders will present some highly developed moves, demonstrating how they strive for perfection. Using VR glasses, the exhibition’s audience will travel to the space Delman has created, to address questions about contemporary forms of physicality on two joined planes: real and virtual.
The artist investigates and interrogates our understanding of sculpture to date. Body sculpture meets spatial installation and sculpture in virtual reality.
